Still going through Jack's dream stuff at this point, but initial thoughts.
<lj-cut="Slight spoilers">
Thinking about the double bind Jack is in during book 2. He doesn't want to be a snitch. But he also doesn't want to be a cheater.
Add to that the fact that Jack is super stubborn and not willing to be what he feels is soft or weak, traits he holds others to as well. Not quite a hard on people, harder on himself thing though.
Jack is the lone wolf archetype, intentionally so. He's the only character in the game without an obvious origin (I've seen some people theorize white fang from the disney live action, but I've never found that theory compelling for a number of reasons.) He contrasts in savanaclaw for this reason, and it's a hundred percent intentional within the story, since he's in conflict with Leona and Savanaclaw's loyalty to him. Even though Jack really wants to be loyal to him.
Wolves are pack animals, part of family units. Jack acts like he wants to be a cool loner sometimes, but it's not in his nature at all. He emphasizes family a lot. We also see him develop fun friendships and rivalries with most of the first years.
It must hurt to feel like he has to earn trust back, especially when he technically did everything right. Especially by our moral standards. But instead, people are frustrated with him. It probably took a lot to earn that respect back.
So it makes sense that he'd have this dream where Leona lost against Malleus fair and square but everything worked out like in a shounen manga, since a lot of shounen manga are all about camaraderie and friendship through adversity (makes me think of spoilers for Deuce's super silly dream tbh.)
If you just have enough grit, everything will work out, even though that's not always true in rl. And that's also one of the core misunderstandings between Leona and Jack, but that's a topic for another time.
