Book of Savanaclaw volume 1 thoughts

I can't go into detail since there's a lot of little jokes in panels that would be nice to point out, but I don't feel like taking screen caps/pics (I've done it before and it's exhausting), but just general impressions and thoughts:
-I like the little interactions between hearts. Trey defending Riddle on impulse despite not needing to. I also like that Riddle finds Cater reliable. And Adeuce are there being themselves. I love Deuce trying so hard to deny his more selfish motives verses Ace's honesty.
-I think that some of Leona's motivations make a lot of sense when it comes to his dorm. Like Diasomnia has such an unfair advantage in the form of Malleus, and there's no easy answer to that. It's not fair to tell Malleus he can't play because he's too strong, but it's not fair that he can wipe the floor with them without breaking a sweat. It's also not fair to just put him in the hall of fame like that, because now no one gets a rematch, and the stain on the loser's honor remains. (also I'm sure Savanaclaw's losses stand out when they're led by a prince.)
Also, after years of playing the game, Jack's suggestion that losing against Malleus is weakness and that Leona could win if he tries feels naive at best.
No wonder Leona compared him to Falena in his head. What seems encouraging is actually out of touch stupidity to him. It's David and Goliath, but with even greater odds against David. Nothing's impossible, but the effort involved isn't worth the small chance of victory in Leona's mind. Leona's thinking doesn't let him push limits like that.
Some of Leona's motives are more selfish than he admits, but I think he also cares about what the dorm is going through. They made it clear that the Spelldrive tournament can be a future defining event. Being cut off from your potential future and by a fae prince who probably doesn't care about a future in Spelldrive would be a kick in the pants.
Cheating is wrong, especially when it involves physical injuries. But Malleus is nearly a god. Can you fight fairly against him? Especially when other people's futures are at stake?
-Also in other news, Leona is pretty, but I'm blown away by how handsome Jack is. I also like the sense of his power and size we get.
-The intro of the tweels was so good too. Floyd in particular was intimidating, much like in the game.
-Lastly, the Leona/Jack vibes were through the roof. Fandom needs to write them more.

I'll say I LOVE the art for the Savanaclaw volume, I feel like the artists really put they whole FOOT in them panels xD It's also one of the books that I wish would've gotten a bit more love for their main story b/c I feel like a lot of Leona's motivations and why he felt the way he felt got lost in how rushed everything felt 😩 (Hell, Leona's character in GENERAL gets lost as a whole in other stuff with the way people brush him off, but don't even get me started on that xD)
I haven't read the full thing, but I did enjoy quite a few of the bits and pieces I did see!! Was thinking about checking it out if/when it came to my local library!!

And yeah, I think this storyline in the original game felt oddly paced and needed to be a bit longer for people to understand the meat of his issue. And like you said, Leona gets brushed off a lot (I feel like he's probably one of the most controversial characters considering the slapfights fandom has over him which is too bad because he's as fascinating as everyone else is.)
But yeah I think it's kind of nice to read if you ever just want to review the storyline and don't feel like playing through the game version again.

And I think so, too!! Makes me wonder if they're gonna translate the Savanaclaw version of the light novel, too, b/c I NEED ; o;
